Global Solutions, Local Leadership: My THIMUN Qatar 2026 Journey
From January 13–16, 2026, the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) became a melting pot for young leaders from around the globe. As Kuzey, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in THIMUN Qatar 2026, an experience that was much more than just a conference—it was a deep dive into international diplomacy and global cooperation.
Representing Azerbaijan in the DISEC Committee
During this year’s conference, I had the honor of serving as the Delegate of the Republic of Azerbaijan. I was assigned to the DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee), also known as the First Committee.
In DISEC, the atmosphere was intense and intellectually stimulating. We tackled some of the world’s most pressing security issues, focusing on how disarmament can pave the way for a more stable future.
- Strategic Diplomacy: Representing Azerbaijan required a keen understanding of regional dynamics and international security protocols.
- The Balancing Act: I worked to emphasize that reducing military tension is a prerequisite for achieving global development goals.
The Core Theme: SDG 2 – Zero Hunger
While my committee focused on security, the overarching theme of the conference was SDG 2: Zero Hunger. This theme reminded us that global peace is inextricably linked to food security. In our sessions, we explored:
- Sustainable Agriculture: How can we feed a growing population without destroying our planet?
- Food Security in Conflict Zones: Ensuring that hunger is never used as a weapon of war.
“A world that spends more on seeds than on swords is a world that can finally end hunger.”
Experience at the QNCC
Walking through the iconic “Sidra Tree” halls of the QNCC, the energy was palpable. The four days were filled with:
- Lobbying & Merging: Negotiating with delegates from different continents to co-author powerful Resolutions.
- Formal Debates: Taking the floor to defend Azerbaijan’s stance and influence the committee’s direction.
- Cultural Exchange: Beyond the sessions, Doha offered a stunning backdrop where tradition meets the future.
Key Takeaways
- Global Perspective: I learned to view complex issues through the eyes of different nations.
- Leadership & Public Speaking: Addressing a room full of sharp minds in a formal setting sharpened my communication skills.
- Collaborative Spirit: I realized that true change happens when we stop competing and start collaborating.
Final Thoughts: THIMUN Qatar 2026 was a milestone in my journey. It taught me that as youth, our voices are not just “future” voices—they are necessary voices for the world today.
